BURUNDI: Women’s Leadership Network and Community Center

In Burundi, LEADStrong has been invited to journey alongside two growing initiatives led by Burundian believers who have a vision for redemptive leadership and gospel-shaped community development.

The Women’s Leadership Network includes leaders from over 30 churches within the city. At the most recent conference, 125 women gathered for biblical studies and leadership development. Their desire to learn and grow is remarkable, and they are asking for continued teaching and formation for both large-group gatherings and a smaller core of leaders.

Alongside this network is the development of a community center in Bujumbura—an initiative that has grown rapidly in a short period of time. The center now includes conference space, a counseling office, a library, a child-sponsorship program, and space for discipleship and community programming. A satellite site has already opened to expand the work, and land has been secured for ministry in an area of significant need.

Through this center, children and mothers are receiving emotional, spiritual, and tangible support. The pilot child-sponsorship program has already begun with 15 children, each receiving spiritual care, academic support, and daily provision, while their mothers receive mentoring and opportunities for long-term stability and growth.

Project Update: Burundi Women’s Leadership Network & Community Center

Nov 30

Written By Joanna Jones

In Burundi, LEADStrong walks beside two major ministry initiatives led entirely by local leaders.

The Women’s Leadership Network is already serving leaders from more than 30 churches. At a recent conference, 125 women gathered for biblical teaching and leadership development—hungry to learn and lead within their congregations and denominations. More groups are requesting teaching, and a team of core leaders is forming for deeper ongoing development.

Alongside this, a community center in Bujumbura is growing into a place of Christian formation and community care. This center hosts conferences, ministry training, counseling, child-sponsorship programming, and new discipleship initiatives. It is a remarkable example of local leadership shaping practical and spiritual ministry for their city.

Child sponsorship has already begun, serving children and families facing the hardships of abandonment and loss. Mothers receive mentoring and programs that help them move toward long-term stability and spiritual growth.

This is a story of leaders rising, ministries forming, and new opportunities taking root in Burundi.
