BURUNDI INITIATIVE
Women’s Leadership Development
In Rwanda and Burundi, LEADStrong walks beside two major ministry initiatives led entirely by local leaders.
The Women’s Leadership Network in Burundi is already serving leaders from around the region but most have had no training or mentoring. At a recent conference, 125 women gathered for biblical teaching and leadership development—hungry to learn and lead within their congregations and contexts, MANY asked when we would return, when there would be the opportunity for more training for their individual teams and for more opportunities to invite much larger groups of women. They are requesting biblical studies programming, teaching in how to reach out in mental and emotional well-being initiatives to meet a wide gap between the needs and current available programming. In light of this, a team of core leaders is being developed to serve this need,
Alongside this, a community center in Bujumbura is growing into a place of Christian formation and community care. This center hosts conferences, ministry training, counseling, child-sponsorship programming, and new discipleship initiatives, among other ministry initiatives. It is a remarkable example of mature local leadership shaping creative practical and spiritual ministry for their city. LEADStrong is also partnering with a large, thriving ministry in Rwanda that is requesting similar program development and implementation.
This is a story of leaders rising, ministries forming, and new opportunities taking root in Burundi.
